Boston Marathon 2019 weather Showers, heavy rain in the morning and embedded thunderstorms in Patri A graphical forecast map created by the National Weather Service on Friday, April 12, 2019 shows widespread rain is likely across Massachusetts around 8 a.m. on Monday, April 15, 2019. Many hoped a rainy, raw 2018 Boston Marathon would mean a sunny, mild 2019 Boston Marathon. But recent forecasts indicate that is unlikely to be the case. The National Weather Service is tracking a low pressure system moving into New England this weekend that is likely to bring showers, heavy rainfall and embedded thunderstorms on marathon Monday. The current forecast predicts widespread showers from late Sunday into Monday morning. It is possible there may be a break from the rain midday, with the threat of scattered showers looming Monday afternoon. Thunderstorms are possible in the morning and throughout the afternoon. The forecast suggests temperatures will be balmier this year than they were at the 2018 race. As of Friday, the National Weather Service said there is a decent shot that much of New England will see temperatures soar into the 60s on Monday, compared to chilly temperatures in the low 40s during last years race. [Sunday Night Into Monday] Periods of showers with locally heavy rainfall are expected to develop late Sunday night and continue into Monday afternoon. A few embedded thunderstorms are possible on Monday too as many locations probably see high temperatures soar into the 60s. Whether running in driving rain and winds up to 45 mph in 2018, snow squalls in 1961 and 1967 and in 90 degree heat in 2012, athletes have persisted in the countrys oldest marathon. The Boston Marathon has never canceled a race due to weather. Registration on or use of this site constitutes acceptance of our and 2019 MassLive LLC. All rights reserved .
